Don’t you love it when your kids have a long break from school? It’s fun to have them around more. But when the break is over and the kids are back in a regular routine, it can inspire a bit of celebration! Which of these things do you appreciate the most when you finally have a few hours each day to yourself?
Private bathroom breaks! If you have very young children, then this one is probably near the top of your list. Oh, how a bathroom break can be the bane of a parent’s existence. You want to hide, surf the internet and just get a break – but you either get interrupted or the house gets destroyed while you take your break. Enjoy the freedom to go without the worry during school hours now!
No more hiding your treats. We all love a yummy treat, if the kids don’t catch us, that is. No more hiding in the pantry while you finish a Popsicle. No more shoving popcorn in your mouth before the kids ask you to share. (Yes, sharing is important – but sometimes you just want a little indulgence for yourself!) Fix yourself a bowl of ice cream and revel in the joy of eating alone!
A few hours of cleanliness. Kids come in and out of the door all day, bringing in dirt and creating a mess. Toys are strewn everywhere, and it always seems to be a struggle to get them to pick up. But while the kids are in school, you can take some pride in the fact that when you clean the house, it will stay that way – at least for a few hours.
Lunch dates. You’ve missed your friends, and now it’s time to meet for lunch – without the kids. Pick a grown up restaurant and enjoy some adult conversation for a change!
Uninterrupted work time! If you work from home, any break from a routine, especially a long break like summer vacation or Christmas holidays, can be a big challenge. The kids are always interrupting, and you struggle to get work done whenever you can. Now that you have quiet time during the day, you’ll be able to schedule work in and be more productive than ever so that you have time to play when the kids get home.
We love having our kids home and all the family togetherness that comes with a long break from school. We also love the return of free time for us and the set schedules that school brings. Enjoy both and celebrate each day!
